Hope Uzodinma, Governor of Imo State, has lamented that the residents of the state do not deserve to be besieged by the incessant attacks heaped upon the state in recent times by hoodlums.
Governor Uzodinma said this during the Sunday service at the Imo State Government House chapel, Owerri.
There have a series of attacks on government buildings in the state in recent times, particularly law-enforcement facilities and the offices of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), leading to the killing of several security operatives and residents, as well as the destruction of properties.
The most recent attacks occurred on Sunday when gunmen attempted to invade the Imo Police command headquarters, as well as razed the country home of Declan Emelumba, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy.
Speaking on the development, Governor Uzodinma said he believes God has taken control of the situation.
He stated that his government will go after the people wreaking havoc on the state.
He said: “I wish you a very happy Sunday and urge you to join the government of Imo State to continue to thank Almighty God for haven taken control of the security situation in Imo State.
“I know it is not easy. We are paying the price of the callous nature of some people and the hostility we don’t deserve that is being visited on our people.
“Government will not fold its hands and allow the security and welfare of our people to be trampled upon.”
The governor urged the residents of the state to keep calm and go about their activities without fear.
