Budding music star, Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, popularly known as Ayar Starr, has revealed how the scenario is while writing songs in the presence of her label boss, Michael Ajereh, who is professionally known as Don Jazzy.
The “Bloody Samaritan” singer, while having her cover shoot for “Clout Magazine” revealed, that the presence of Don Jazzy, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Mavin Records, serves as a great motivation for her whenever she writes songs.
According to the 19-year-old songstress, who burst into the limelight in 2020, Don Jazzy gives creative freedom to his artists and will always encourage them to try out any idea they may have regardless of having weird feelings about them.
She added that the respected music producer constantly puts her and other Mavin artistes on their tones to turn out quality music content.
She said: “I don’t write music with Don Jazzy, exactly. But, I like to write music around Don Jazzy because, when I write music around him, there’s a certain type of like ‘I cannot f**k up, I cannot mess up. So when he’s around me, I’m like, ‘Jazzy is around me’.
“If I’m around Jazzy, I’m writing like five songs. He has that ginger that you’re like, ‘Okay, Jazzy is here. You know he took his time to come and stay with me at this session, I cannot mess up.’
“So, with Jazzy, I like to write music around him because I just think very fast. Because I’m put under pressure a little. But I work really well under pressure. So, I’m like working very fast.
“And also with Jazzy, he has this thing, that he just gives creative freedom. Do your thing. No matter how weird it is. It might sound weird to you but he’ll be like, ‘Do it, just do it’. Like he allows me to just do my own thing every single time.”
Ayra Starr released a self-titled debut EP in 2021 and later the same year unveiled her debut album: “19 and Dangerous”, which has received critical acclaim.
