Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu says all security formations in Nigeria’s economic capital have been placed on red alert against alleged attacks by bandits as a result of a Lagos State security meeting on Friday.
Sanwo-Olu who spoke in the wake of reports of possible bandit attacks in the state advised Lagosians to remain calm and raise alarm whenever they notice a security threat.
“All of the security agencies have been activated not to cause panic; they have been reassured of not only the support of the state government, they also have been encouraged to be vigilant in their statutory responsibilities,” the governor said.
The governor said that the State Security Council had evaluated the situation at all of the state’s flashpoints and ordered increased vigilance to thwart any impending threats.
”In the last three and a half hours, we discussed the current security situation in the state and we have reviewed where we are. We have our heads together and come up with a strategy that is assuring to our citizens,” Mr Sanwo-Olu said.
Following intelligence reports that Boko Haram terrorists and those of the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, had intensified plots to attack the nation’s capital, Abuja, and five other states, including Lagos, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, in July put all of its state commands on alert.
