A former Nigerian senator, Shehu Sani, has warned Nollywood and Kannywood actors filming near bushes to “be careful in these times”.

Airtime voucher: 3714

Sani’s comment comes amid increasing activities of daring bandits and kidnappers in many Nigerian states.

Nollywood and Kannywood actors and actresses shooting movie scenes in our Bushes should be careful in this times.

— Senator Shehu Sani (@ShehuSani) July 31, 2022

“Nollywood and Kannywood actors and actresses shooting movie scenes in our Bushes should be careful in this [sic] times,” Sani wrote on his verified Twitter handle on Sunday evening.

Nigeria’s northwest and north-central states have long been afflicted by violence fuelled by disputes over access to land and resources, among other factors. Heavily armed gangs have taken advantage of the lack of effective policing to launch attacks, pillage villages, steal cattle and kidnap for ransom. No one is safe.

But violence has recently become more widespread, piling pressure on the federal government – already battling the Boko Haram armed group and its offshoot in the northeast for more than a decade – to do more to halt the attacks.
