Bandits have reportedly kidnapped babies, female nurses and security guards from the residential quarters of the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Centre, NTLC, in Zaria, Kaduna State.
PRNigeria reports that the bandits attacked the facility from a nearby forest and engaged policemen in a gun battle before escaping with their victims.
The area, known as Saye District located on the outskirts of Zaria, is said to be close to the dreaded forests of Sabon Birni, Galadima and Malu where bandits keep their hostages.
Meanwhile, Samuel Aruwan, Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs in the state, said Nigerian troops are intensifying efforts to rescue the victims.
The development comes barely 24 hours, after bandits killed seven persons in three Local Government Areas of the state.
