Unknown gunmen suspected to be bandits have a “large number” of students from Government Day Secondary School, Kaya, in Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The incident happened in Maradun, the hometown of Bello Matawalle, Governor of Zamfara State, on Wednesday.

According to a resident of the community, the bandits arrived at the school at about 11:00 a.m on Wednesday when the school was in session.

The resident stated that although the number of the kidnapped students was yet to be known, the victims could be more than 100 as the bandits packed them en masse.

He added that the school has a population of over 300 students, adding that a significant number of the students were taken by the bandits.

“We are yet to identify the actual number of students abducted, but we believe that they would reach 100,” the Punch quoted the resident as saying.

The Zamfara Police Command had not issued a statement on the reported incident as of the time of filing this report.
