Bandits are reportedly demanding N200 million for the release of Major Stephen Datong, the military officer abducted during an attack on the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna, on Tuesday.

The bandits, who were said to have gained access into the premises of the military facility through a part that had no fence, also killed two other officers in the early morning attack.

Though authorities at the NDA have not confirmed the demand for ransom by the kidnappers, it is said that the criminals have made contact over the abducted officer.

It was reported after the incident, that the personnel monitoring the Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), slept off during the attack, for which the academy will court martial some soldiers for failing to secure the area.

In a statement, Bashir Muhd Jajira, spokesperson of the NDA, also explained that the security architecture was compromised at the institution.
