Ten persons have been killed, following an attack by bandits on Tara village in Sokoto State.
The Sokoto Police command confirmed the attack on Friday.
The police said three other persons who sustained injuries are currently receiving treatment.
The command confirmed that the attack occurred on Friday morning in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of the state.
Sanusi Abubakar, the police command spokesperson, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), that the injured persons are currently receiving treatment at the Orthopaedic Hospital in Wamakko.
Abubakar also noted that Kamaldeen Okunlola, the state commissioner of police, has held a meeting with residents of the community to assure them of proper security measures to avoid a repeat of such an occurrence.
“We at the command are highly shocked with the story of the incident which claimed no fewer than 10 lives. We are deeply touched by the situation,” the commissioner was quoted to have said.
“However, the command has deployed more security [operatives] to the affected area and environs to ensure that the perpetrators of such acts are brought to book.
“As such, we appeal to the good people of Sokoto to continue to cooperate with security agencies toward ending any act of criminality across the state.”
He also urged the people of the state to be cautious of any strange movement around them, and to report all security threats to the appropriate authorities.
