Armed bandits have killed two Divisional Crime Officers (DCOs) of the Nigeria Police Force and injured another at Kalgo village in Garki Local Government Area in Jigawa State.
It was learnt that the incident occurred on Friday afternoon following a gun duel between the bandits and the police men.
An eyewitness said a combined team of security operatives arrived in their patrol vehicles before going to a nearby bush to locate the hideout of the criminals, the Vanguard reports.
The eyewitness added that the bandits ambushed the police and in the cause of exchanging fire, two senior police officers were killed instantly and one other injured.
The two DCOs killed, it was learnt, were working at the Maigatari Divisional Police Headquarters.
The other police officer who was injured is currently at Gumel general hospital receiving treatment.
Abdu Jinjiri, the Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Police Command, confirmed the incident, but said he is yet to get the full details.
“I’m still waiting for details of the unfortunate incident, but will get back to you as soon as I get it,” he said.
