Bandits have sent a threat letter to some communities in Sokoto State.
The criminals are said to have mentioned five communities, namely: Shuni, Kwanar Kimba, Rikina, and Dange, all in Dange/Shuni Local Government Area of the state in the letter, causing panic among the residents.
Meanwhile, the commissioner of police in the state, Kola Okunlola, in a statement on Sunday, assured members of the communities that the police are on the trail of the suspected bandits who wrote the letter.
Okunlola said one person has been arrested and is helping the police with its investigations.
While urging residents to disregard the threats, he further assured them of their continued safety.
Sokoto is one of the states in the North-west region tormented by bandits who have continued to kill, kidnap for ransom and rape women.
Last week, governor Aminu Tambuwal invoked an executive order banning motorists from plying the Marnona/Issa road linking the eastern part of the state.
The governor also shut markets and banned sale of petrol in jerricans.
