The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has asked the government of Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun State to be transparent with the upgrading process of Osun state College of Education Illesa to a university.
Making this call in a statement made available to Newsbreak Nigeria on Monday, the association, while disclosing that it was in support of the proposed upgrade, asked the Osun state government to incorporate all necessary stakeholders.
“Perhaps the greatest of all considerations and the best thing everyone involved in this project can do now is to exercise caution and incorporate all necessary stakeholders,” a statement by the association read.
“While we must commend the caliber of individuals already appointed to the implementation committee, we must emphasize that the other critical stakeholders of the college of education being upgraded are still left out,” it added.
The union lamented that itself and other germane stakeholders were being sidelined in the upgrade process. It however appealed to the Osun state government, not to renege on plans to establish and upgrade the institution.
Members of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union staged a peaceful protest earlier this month over what they described as unresolved issues stemming from the upgrade of the Osun State College of Education Ilesa to a university.
