The Nigerian Army have re-absorbed over 3,000 of the 5,000 dismissed soldiers. The soldiers were dismissed from the military for alleged mutiny against their commander in Maiduguri in 2014. The military had re-opened their case after which they were pardoned. The soldiers were sent in for a two week re-orientation programme at the Nigerian Army Training Centre in Niger State after which they were sent to the 7 Division, Maiduguri to bolster the operations of the army in the North East.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, had said during a briefing that the recalled soldiers had indicated their readiness to return to the operational area. He said that the training programme was designed to reorient them and prepare them for the last phase of the ongoing campaign against the insurgents in the North East.
