Bandits on Sunday invaded Yargoje village in Kankara in nearby Katsina, President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state, and reportedly killed the leader of the village vigilante.
Details of the attack as well as the name of the vigilante leader are not yet clear, but this news medium understands that vengeance-hungry bandits detest vigilantes.
Sequel to the attack, report indicates that most residents within the community are now fleeing to neighbouring villages.
States in northwestern Nigeria are known to have serious attacks by bandits, uncoordinated groups that don’t really have any malign intention against the state, but are killing, kidnapping, forcing people from their homes, and taunting the authorities with their brazenness.
The violence typically involves scores of gunmen on motorbikes sweeping into villages, shooting all the young men, women and children they can find on the assumption they belong to local vigilantes, and then carting away livestock and anything else of value.
The raids are becoming increasingly daring.
