Barrister Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the Lead Counsel to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), says the Department of State Services (DSS) has served his law firm documents they filed in one of the matters the IPOB legal team is prosecuting against them.
Newsbreak.ng reports that according to Ejiofor, the DSS ‘strangely included a long list of people of the southeast region being detained at Wawa Barracks, Niger State’. He said the suspects of southeast extraction are “being detained at the pleasure of the state”.
He also conveyed detained Nnamdi Kanu’s message of steering clear of terror, which he said is hampering the IPOB leader’s release and fatally affecting innocent southeast residents.
Ejiofor’s statement on Thursday night reads: “Today, being the 22nd day of December, 2022, we visited our indefatigable Client – Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, at the DSS detention facility, Abuja where he is still being unconstitutionaly held in solitary confinement.
“We had a very incisive and fruitful briefing within the time allotted to me. Onyendu offered far-reaching audience to critical opinions and proferred plausible legal suggestions to achieve speedy justice.
“The visit offered Onyendu (Kanu) the opportunity to reiterate that Biafrans should appreciate at this juncture, that we are in a very serious situation demanding a total change in narrative. He strongly admonished Biafrans to jettison any order or declaration that might result in any form of violence.
“Onyendu noted with the greatest sadness that Biafrans are being dumped daily inside the detention facilities of various security agencies with no traces of the places nor particulars of their detention.
“He described as alarming the rate this massive onslaught on innocent citizens is gaining prominence.
“Furthermore, Onyendu opined that people should be guided by this hard fact, that each time the criminal gangs commit offence on our land, those that bear the brunt are our innnocent fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters, who are usually killed, and others arrested unprovoked and dumped at the different formations of the Security Agencies across the country, where they are being detained at the pleasure of the Establishment.
“To further demonstrate the seriousness of this factual situation we are being confronted with, today, the DSS served on our Law Firm, a bundle of documents they filed in one of the matters we are prosecuting against them, and strangely, they included a long list of Biafrans being detained at Wawa Barracks, Niger State, as those being detained at the pleasure of the state. This is how messy the situation has gotten.
“Onyendu was emphatic and further admonished that our people should stop playing into the hands of our common enemies.
“Onyendu directed our people to thread with utmost caution because he is not under any illusion that those still fermenting trouble on our land in the purported name of the struggle are the real enemies of our people.
“Onyendu prayed for every Ezigbo UmuChineke and offered his blessings for you during this yuletide and New Year.
“Onyendu is very firm and remains tenaciously unshaken even in the face of all desperate moves by the Federal Government of Nigeria to intimidate and break his spirit. He, as always, thanked you all for your solidarity, love, and relentless prayers. Be assured that they are not taken for granted.
