Kuje Prison Attack

The Federal Government of Nigeria on Wednesday said one person died and three other persons sustained injuries when some gunmen on Tuesday night attacked the Custodial Centre in the Kuje area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Speaking to the press, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Shuaib Belgore, said about 600 inmates escaped from the centre in the course of the attack, while about 300 have been recaptured.

This news medium understands that the facility holds 994 inmates.

Belogore blamed the attack on Boko Haram terrorists, who he said invaded the prison centre to free their co-conspirators.

“We don’t know how many were killed among the attackers, but it is possible they took their casualties with them. But on our side, one person died, and about three injuries.”
