A report says Senator Dino Melaye, from Kogi state, led loyalists of Senate President Bukola Saraki to a secret meeting in the latter’s Maitama, Abuja, home on Monday. The senators, known as the ‘Like Minds senators’ reportedly discussed their leader’s (Saraki) travail and the controversial budget.
The group was also said to have sketched out plans to amend the Code of Conduct Bureau Act and the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, Act in a bid to whittle down the powers of the chairmen. The senators believed, as the Senate President Saraki has repeated, that the latter’s trial for false assets declaration was remote-controlled by people opposed to him.
But, the bill’s sponsor and Saraki’s supporter, Senator Peter Nwaboshi (Delta North), said he was only being “patriotic” to push the bill at the current time. The bill and another that aims to amend the ‘Administration of Criminal Justice Act’ has curiously gathered speed in the senate known to foot-drag on bill passage.
