Senator Mohammed Hassan Thursday opposed Senator Ahmed Lawan’s motion urging the senate to applaud President Muhammadu Buhari for the rescue of 48 out of the 94 schoolgirls who went missing following a book haram attack on their school. Lawan, who is the Senate Leader, while stating his motion described the schoolgirls’ rescue as “a great achievement”.
“Mr. President, distinguished colleagues, I want to commend President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigeria security for their effort in rescuing some girls. It is a great achievement,” said Senator Lawan.
However, the statement did not go down well with senator Mohammed, representing Yobe North Senatorial District. Hassan said security was the responsibility of government and the disappearance of the schoolgirls showed government’s failure.
He also said security agents were not doing enough to deserve the praise of anyone, including that of the senate leader.
Deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the session, stressed that anyone has the right to their opinion on any issue of national importance.
