President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived Enugu state, South-East Nigeria, on a two-day working visit. The president was received by the governors of Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi states governors, Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, Okezie Ikpeazu and Dave Umahi respectively. Also at the airport to receive the president were top security officials.
It is the president’s first visit to any South-East state since he took office in 2015. Buhari’s visit is a more of placatory one to a region has recently been turmoiled by secessionist agitations by the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, resulting in fatal clashes with security operatives. Equally, the visit aims to presents the direct opposite to popular beliefs of many South-Easterners that Buhari abhorred the Igbo.
The president is expected to visit the other four states across the region.
