President Muhammadu Buhari met the country’s defence and security chiefs for the umpteenth time and presided over a National Security Council meeting on Tuesday.
The meeting held inside the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was attended by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.
Also in attendance were General Gabriel Abayomi Olonisakin, the Chief of Defence Staff; Lieutenant-General Tukur Yusuf Buratai, the Chief of Army Staff; Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, Chief of Air Staff; Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the Chief of Naval Staff; and Mohammed Adamu, the Inspector-General of Police.
Others at the meeting were the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno; heads of the Department of State Services and National Intelligence Agency; the ministers of Justice, Police Affairs, Defence and Interior among others.
The meeting was held a day after the Nigeria Governors Forum decried what it called the nation’s worsening security situation.
