Ayodele Fayose, governor of Ekiti state, says actions of President Muhammadu Buhari have shown him to a president of northern Nigeria, and not a pan-Nigerian president. Fayose, through his media aide, Lere Olayinka, said the president had shown ethnic biases in the appointments he made  so far, and wondering why only seven out of 31 appointees by the administration are southerners. To the governor, such ‘appointments negate the principle of federal character.

“Under Buhari, are people from southern Nigeria only meant to be hounded and harassed by anti-corruption agencies and the Department of State Services while those from the North are meant to enjoy Federal Government’s juicy appointments?” the statement asked. The governor also alleged that the rehabilitation of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway had slowed down and the Lokoja-Abuja road construction stopped, suggesting they were deliberate.

These roads “are the major roads linking the southern part of Nigeria with the North,” Fayose stated. “Also, we have been told by the Federal Government that the Second Niger Bridge project has been suspended and one is now beginning to remember how Buhari cancelled the Lagos Metroline Project in 1985 at a loss of over $78m (then) to the Lagos tax payers.”
