Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, has clarified why security chiefs appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari are mainly northerners. Adesina, on a Channels television, said the appointed officers were the most senior in line to succeed their predecessors.
“The security system often times operates on hierarchy and efficiency. So if you have a senior person who is also efficient and because he comes from a certain region, you bypass him, I think you are being unjust and unfair to somebody”, he said.
Also, Adesina explained that the appointments by the president didn’t always have to reflect the Principle of Federal Character.
“There are some (appointments) that are not necessarily subject to federal character
But “every other part of the country would be taken care of,” he assured.
