President Muhammadu Buhari has fired his Chief Security Officer, Abdulrahman Mani, and directed that he posted out of the presidential villa, Premium Times reports. The online news medium said presidency and State Security Service sources told it. Mani’s sack Saturday culminated weeks of stand-off between him and the president’s ADC over the redeployment of secret servicemen from certain beats in the presidency and their exclusion from giving close body protection to the president. A source was quoted in the report as saying Mani, a SSS officer, was becoming excessively overzealous and overbearing”. The Saturday sack has not been officially announced by the two presidential spokesmen, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu.
Upon enquiry on the issue, Adesina says, “I don’t speak on security matters, so you may have to ask the SSS,” the report stated. Sources were also quoted as stating that complaints of Mani blocking people with genuine appointments from having access to the President necessitated his sack.
