President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to call off the ongoing strike in the interest of Nigerian students, Newsbreak reports.
The President made the appeal at the 19th National Productivity Day and the conferment of the National Productivity Order of Merit Award (NPOM) on 48 eminent Nigerians and organisations in both the public and private sectors. The award was bestowed on the Nigerians ‘for their high productivity, hardwork and excellence’.
ASUU has been on strike since February 14 this year.
Buhari, who urged ASUU to take into consideration the plight of students, also urged the young men and women in public tertiary institutions to exercise patience.
According to him, the federal government had continued to strive in order to address the niggling issues in Nigeria’s university system within the ambit of the resources available.
