Former Federal Lawmaker from Kaduna state Shehu Sani on Friday challenged President Muhammadu Buhari to courageously name specific governors pocketing local government funds.
Newsbreak.ng reports that Senator Sani’s request comes shortly after Buhari’s revelation that some governors were pocketing funds meant for local government.
Governors and local government officials who “pocket” public monies, according to the President, are to blame for the stalled development at the local governments.
Buhari criticised the governors for the “bad grassroots government” he claimed they were providing.
President Buhari made this statement on Thursday at a discussion with students from the Kuru Senior Executive Course No. 44 (2022) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies. The event took place at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja.
However, challenging Buhari to give specific names of governors pocketing local government funds instead of “timid generalisation”, Sani wrote on his verified Twitter handle: “The President should have the courage to specifically mention those Governors “pocketing LG allocations” rather than timid generalisation.”
