President Muhammadu Buhari has thanked the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for donating 200 armoured fighting vehicles and the promise to further give some fighter helicopters.
Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, stated Buhari’s appreciation in a statement he issued. The effort is a support for Nigeria’s anti-terrorism campaign. Buhari was quoted as telling Jordanian King Abdullah II during a bilateral meeting held between both leaders at the UN General Assembly meeting that the latter’s efforts “reflects true concern for Nigeria’s security situation and genuine goodwill towards a friendly nation.”
Moreover, “President Buhari reassured King Abdullah of Nigeria’s commitment towards the proposed Aqaba Process with countries in the region as well as Nigeria’s willingness to play a leading role in bringing together countries in the West African sub-region into this collective security arrangement”. He also assured his national security adviser, Babagana Munguno, who also attended the talks, would work out modalities for the Asaqa process.
Other Nigerian officials at the meeting were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, the National Security Adviser, NSA, Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd), and Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Professor Tijjani Bande.
The President pledged Nigeria’s continued desire for enhanced bilateral ties with the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
