Femi Fani-Kayode, former aviation, and culture minister, has labelled President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government “a reckless and irresponsible government” pursuing “the ruthless implementation of an ethnic and religious agenda”. Fani-Kayode’s comments are contained in his op-ed ‘The Murder of Fulani: Yugoslavia Unfolding’. The former minister implied a the Department of State Security, DSS, partisanship in the alleged murder of five Fulani herdsmen by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB in Anambra state. He said other killings by Fulani herdsmen across the country had not attended the same seriousness by the DSS as the earlier mentioned. Fani-Kayode said the government has a 1960 mindset, while the country continues to witness “growing unrest, ethnic killings and sectarian murders”.
“We have failed so badly that the remote and immediate causes of that civil war are back with us today even though we hate to admit or acknowledge it.
“Our country is like Yugoslavia unfolding before it exploded and violently broke into five separate countries. All the signs are there. “Consider the dangerous mix. A crumbling economy. An inept, weak, failing and paranoid government. A hungry, angry and increasingly desperate civilian population. An ignorant, obsessive, arrogant, insensitive, corrupt and self-absorbed political class who are out of touch with reality”, Fani-Kayode said among other things.
