Tukur Buratai, Nigeria’s ambassador to Benin Republic and former army chief, on Wednesday, met President Patrice Talon to present his letter of Credence.
Buratai is meeting the Beninese president amid the arrest of trial of Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, better known as Sunday Igboho in Cotonou, the country’s capital.
Igboho, who was declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS), was arrested in the neighbouring West African country on July 19, while trying to fly to Germany with his wife.
Buratai served as Nigeria’s chief of army staff between July 2015 and January 2021.
After his retirement in January, he was nominated as an ambassador by President Muhammadu Buhari.
