Johnson Aremu, a 25-year-old bus conductor was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ogba Magistrate Court in Ikeja for attacking his neighbour with machete.
Aremu was said to have used the machete to inflict injuries on his neighbor’s neck and waist for beating his wife.
He was arraigned on a two-count charge of Unlawful infliction of grievous harm
According to Aremu, Tunde Ogunlowo, the victim, was fighting with his own wife on February 13, 2019 at Adebari Street, Atobaje, Agege area of the state.
He said Ogunlowo was beating his wife and the neighbors intervened but Ogunlowo refused to leave his wife until she fainted.
“When his wife fainted we started pouring water on her, he started fighting with another old woman in the compound, which prompted me to slap him and started beating him. We were later separated, only for him to bring a machete to cut me.
“I weaved the cutlass and it fell to the floor, I picked it up and use the same cutlass to cut his neck and waist,” Aremu said.
Cliford Ogu, the prosecution officer told the court that the offence contravene and is punishable under Sections 246 and 245 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charges read against him.
Adegun J. A., the magistrate, said since the defendants has pleaded guilty, there is no need to prolong the matter.
She adjourned the case till February 28, 2019 for facts presentation and sentence.
