A businessman, Hamza Abubakar, has been jailed three years for raping his nine-year-old daughter. The man was arraigned before a Jos Upper Area Court, sitting in Kasuwan Nama, where he pleaded guilty to the crime.
The prosecutor, E. Edwin told the court that Abubakar lured the minor into his second wife’s room, where he raped her. Edwin added that the businessman threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone about what happened between them.
The prosecutor said Abubakar’s offences, namely incest, rape and criminal intimidation, contravened Sections 390, 283 and 397 of the Penal Code Laws of Northern Nigeria.
Trial judge, Yahaya Mohammed, convicted Abubakar on all the counts without an option of fine. Justice Mohammed further said the offences contravened the provisions of Section 157 of Plateau Criminal Procedure Law.
