The Confederation of African Football (CAF), has confirmed that Hussein Swaleh Mtetu, a former Kenya Football Secretary-General, was among the 157 victims of Sunday’s Ethiopian Airlines plane crash.
Hussein was reportedly returning home to Kenya after serving as Commissioner in the Champions League match between Ismaily and TP Mazembe, which took place in Alexandria on Friday.
According to Cafonline, Ahmad Ahmad,the CAF President, has sent a condolence message to the family of the deceased and the country’s football federation.
Hussein was appointed as CAF match commissioner for 2018 to 2020. He was secretary-general of KFF when the country played at the 2004 African Cup of Nations in Tunisia.
The Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 to Nairobi crashed early on Sunday, killing all passengers and eight crew members on board. The aircraft was said to have lost contact with control tower few minutes after taking off.
