A Catholic priest has died from COVID-19 complications at the Benue State Teaching Hospital.
Benson Abounu, the state deputy governor and chairman of the Benue Action Committee on COVID-19, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Makurdi, the state capital, on Monday.
“In the last one week, we have recorded a mortality at the Federal Medical Center in Makurdi, everyday we recorded a mortality, including this morning. A Reverend Father passed on this morning.
“The other time, within five days we lost four prominent Benue people. So this variant is not one that anybody should joke with.
“As much as possible, avoid going into any gathering of any nature for now. It is only if it is a must. The best treatment for COVID-19 is prevention,” he said
According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Benue has 657 confirmed cases of the deadly disease.
