Danso Atiko, a Liverpool fan and final year Engineering student at Akwatia Technical Institute, Ghana, collapsed and died while celebrating Liverpool’s 4-0 defeat of Barcelona in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Danso, a teenager, reportedly died following a jubilation session for the Reds’ fourth goal at a pub in Eastern Ghana.

An eyewitness said the deceased was rushed to the Akwatia St. Dominic’s Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead after other football fans had tried to revive him.

Hebert was said to be writing his final examination.

The News Agency of Nigeria quoted Maxwel Owusu-Afriyie, the principal of Akwatia Technical Institution, as telling the Accra based radio station, Starr FM, that the incident is being investigated.

Owusu-Afriyie said: “We will get the details and see if there was something the student did that suggests that his behaviour was in excess.

“On that, we can really talk to the students. We have a system in place where we talk to the students and their behaviour these days.”

Liverpool’s win over Barcelona on Tuesday in the second leg semi-final of the competition has been ranked among one of the greatest comebacks in world football.

They knocked out the Spanish champions 4-3 on aggregate, despite losing the first leg 3-0.

The Anfield side will play either Tottenham Hotspur or Ajax in the final in Madrid later this month.
