A Chinese club did the unthinkable and fielded a twelfth player. The club, Beijing Renhe, had been defending a corner in the 89th minute when a player, Rao Weihui, found his way onto the field of play. He had been injured and was receiving treatment on the sidelines not knowing he had been substituted.
The team played with 12 players fr about 40 seconds before the opposing fans alerted the referee. They started chanting, “12 men, they have 12 men” before the referee Zhen Wei got the message.
Renhe went on to claim a 1-0 win angering Boading Rongda.
The Chinese Football Association is yet to make a statement regarding the incident. Reports have suggested that the referee could be removed from his duties.
