K. A. Hashim, a senior state attorney representing the prosecution, requested that the defendant be held in custody until the Office of the Attorney-General of Kano State issues a legal opinion.
Hanif Yusuf, the chief magistrate, granted the application and postponed the case until October 13.
Newsbreak Nigeria had earlier reported that Quangrong, a Chinese man, allegedly stabbed UmmuKulthum, a 23-year-old lady, in the Janbulo neighbourhood of Kano’s Kumbotso Local Government Area.
Through its spokesman SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the police in Kano verified the event.
He said that the suspect, Geng, 47, committed the crime on Friday after climbing the fence of the dead person’s home to obtain entrance, where he repeatedly stabbed her till she passed away.
Geng claimed that despite spending a lot of money on his lover Ummu, she betrayed him by not fulfilling her promise to marry him.
The suspect said he was enraged by her deceit and decided to attack and kill the deceased at her home.
