The students and staff of Chrisland College, Idimu, Lagos rolled the drums out on Friday, 25th June 2021 to celebrate the Nigerian culture amidst pomp and pageantry.
Students and members of staff turned out in their beautiful, colourful and gorgeous traditional attires. It was a beautiful sight to behold! The theme of the event was ” Nigeria: One Root, Many Branches “.
To Chrisland College, this was a golden opportunity to showcase the rich cultural heritage Nigeria has. The students educated and entertained their audience with dances, drama and fashion parade. On display were numerous rich and nutritious foods, drinks and snacks that are indigenous to the six geographical zones of the country, which all in attendance feasted on.
The Principal of the College, Mrs. Martha Ijeoma Maduabuchi-David, in her address, encouraged all the students, members of staff and guests to promote the Nigerian culture as “it is unique and outstanding”.
Guest Speaker, Mr Muftau Onifade, admonished the parents on the need to teach their children more on morality and Nigerian culture. These, according to him, could be done via songs, storytelling and dressing. He said that if parents refused to preserve their culture by teaching and passing it to their children, in no distant time, the culture, no matter how rich it is, would go into extinction.
Raphael Stevens (aka Dr Adult of “Awa Aladun”) and Maryam Bakare (aka Aponbepore) were the Guest Artistes of the day.
The event, which was broadcast live on zoom, saw full representation of the Parents Teachers’ Association which was represented by some of the executive members, among whom were Mr. Olugbenga Olaoye, Dr Remi Durojaiye and Mr. Aluka-Gerald.
