The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai has ordered all officers of the Nigerian Army who are yet to declare their assets to do so. He gave the directive at a conference with Principal Staff Officers and Directors serving under the Army Headquarters. The directive is said to be in order as military officers are regarded as civil servants and have Presidential Commission and are subject to both civil and military laws. The order will ensure the army is in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s drive for probity and accountability.
The Chief of Army Staff had himself declared his assets on his appointment as the Commander of the Multinational Joint Task Force in May 2015 and as COAS in July, 2015. He sent copies of both declarations to the Code of Conduct Bureau.
