A couple, Ifeanyi Anyanwu and Amarachi Ugorji, have been arrested for stealing a child from Umuozu-Uguiri in the Isialo Mbano Local Government Area of Imo state on August 28, 2017 and selling him for N500,000. The couple are also said to have sold their first child for N200,000 on credit to a man in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. The Ounch reports that Ugorji, 18, was already pregnant with another child at the time of their arrest.
Andrew Enwerem, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident. He said the suspects had kidnapped Nwachukwu and sold him to one Ifeanyinwa Duru, who resold him to one Chidinma Emmanuel for N700,000.
The police spokesperson, who described the development as worrisome, said the couple, Duru and Emmanuel were nabbed in Aba, Abia State, adding that the child was rescued unhurt. He said the suspects would be charged to court soon.
