A Masaka Chief Magistrates’ Court in Nasarawa State, on Thursday ordered one Matthew Matthew, 38, to vacate his apartment before Nov. 30, for non-payment of house rent.
Matthew, a resident of Masaka, Nasarawa State, was dragged to court by his landlord, one Gaiyya Shifilo, for failure to pay a year arrears of rent, which amounted to N36, 000.
The magistrate, Victor Manga, said the tenant violated an earlier order of the court by not paying the arrears to his landlord.
Manga had ordered him to vacate his apartment and look for an alternative accommodation, since his landlord had no interest in the arrears he owed.
The magistrate advised him to look for an alternative accommodation before the date given to him, in order to avoid any form of embarrassment.
Matthew blamed his inability to pay his house rent on the current economic recession.
“Since I lost my job; I find it difficult to do what I used to do before.
“Currently, I am into commercial motorcycle business, which is my only means of survival, “Matthew said.
The landlord, had on Oct. 24, filed a suit against the defendant and pleaded with the court to help him evict the tenant from his house.
