The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), said it has launched an investigation into allegations, that some officials of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, have been collecting bribe from passengers on COVID-19 evacuation flights.

There have been allegations that some officials of the airport demand bribe from the returnees for COVID-19 clearance, and to help them evade the mandatory COVID-19 test and isolation.

The Presidential Taskforce on COVID-19 had announced that it is mandatory for every returnee to undergo a compulsory COVID-19 test and go into isolation for 14 days, to determine their status.
In a statement released on Sunday by Henrietta Yakubu, FAAN General Manager, Corporate Affairs, she said investigation into the allegation has commenced.

“The recent allegation that some airport officials in Abuja were collecting money from returning passengers on evacuation flights is already being investigated by all agencies at the airport,” the statement stated.
She advised passengers to desist from giving money to airport officials, and urged them to report anyone who requests money under any guise.
