A cripple’s antic is to defraud healing seekers with claims that he possessed magical powers, a Ghanaian court heard. The one-name 56-year old cripple, Ackah, was arrested and currently being prosecuted by the police for obtaining money by pretence.
Lawrence Hanson, a police prosecutor, told the court that the cripple swindled traders and farmers at Srebuoso in the Atwima-Mponua District, and Nkoran and Toase, in Atwima-Nwabiagya District.
The police said the fake cripple herbalist arrived in the communities, claiming to have been sent by the gods to heal people of their sicknesses. Unsuspecting, the villagers housed, and began to consult him on their afflictions. The cripple charged between GH¢ 300 and GH¢ 500 for healing rituals. After sometime, the cripple fled the community to another place to continue his tricks before his eventual arrest. He pleaded ‘not guilty’ was granted bail by the Nkawie Circuit Court for GH¢10,000. Hearing in the matter continues on February 15.
