Jorge Mendes, agent of Cristiano Ronaldo, has said it will take a transfer fee of at least £300 million to prise the Portuguese superstar from Real Madrid.. Ronaldo, who joined Madrid from Manchester United for a world-record fee of £80m in 2009, was linked with a return to Old Trafford last year, but Mendes said “he will not leave Real Madrid”. “If for any reason the club decide to sell him tomorrow for £300 million, someone will pay,” Mendes said in an interview with BBC Sport. After winning the Ballon d’Oward last month, Mendes claimed his client is greatest sportsman in history. “He is the best player ever in the world. He is the best sportsman ever so you cannot compare because it is impossible to find someone like him.” Mendes defended the controversial system of ‘third-party’ ownership, which allows investors to own a share in players rather than them being owned outright by clubs. Fifa and Uefa plan to ban the practice – which is already against the rules in England – but Mendes said: “Courts will not accept this (ban). This is illegal. So many players come to Portugal and Spain (from South America) and who has the right to stop them finding a better work.”
