Suspected cultists in the early hours of Tuesday, attacked a dredging point manned by personnel of the Nigerian Navy at Baiyeku, in Igbogbo/Baiyeku Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.
The cultists chopped off a naval officer’s hand and made away with his service pistol.
Ikorodu Ambassadors, a pro-community group, in a post on Facebook, quoted a local newspaper, MegaXpression, as saying that the cultists came through the waterways and escaped through the same route after the attack.
The traditional ruler of Igbogbo/Baiyeku, Oba AbdulSemiu Orimadegun Kasali, Adeboruwa of Igbogbo Kingdom, who met with security operatives in his palace, expressed displeasure over the development.
He called on those involved to return the naval officer’s pistol under 72 hours before it is too late.
The monarch urged the Department of State Services (DSS) and police officers to conduct thorough investigation and pray for the attacked naval officer, who is currently receiving treatment at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos.
A.S Omotosho, a naval commander, at the meeting, informed the monarch that drastic action will be taken over the attack on the officer.
“When issues like this happens, what we needed is to react and take appropriate actions immediately to forestall future occurrence,” Omotosho said.
“I’ve discussed with the DPO, Igbogbo Divisional Police Station, Mr A.R. Balogun, all we need is the people’s corporation and relevant information that will help us in apprehending those involved.”
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Igbogbo police station, A.R Balogun, solicited the support of the residents in order to apprehend the culprits.
“Another corpse was also found at Marculay, before Bayeku town ship with no traces of injury on his body,” Balogun added.
