The police in Lagos have arrested a 28-year-old commercial bus driver, Taofeek Salisu for driving against one way and killing a 42-year-old man in the process.
Salisu was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing the death of one Jelili Bello, an offence which contravenes Section 20 of the Road Transport Law of Lagos state.
The prosecuting officer, Babatope Julius told the court that the defendant, a resident of 10 Ore Street, Olodi Apapa, committed the offence on November 9 along Apapa Oshodi Expressway.
According to Julius, “at about 4:45 p.m. the defendant drove a Volkwagen Vanagon Bus with registration number KSF 116 XT in a way dangerous to other road users, against one way which resulted in the death of Late Bello.
“In addition, he drove the vehicle without a valid driver’s license.”
He said his offences Section 7, 22 (1) of the Road Transport Law of Lagos state, 2012.
The defendant, however, denied the allegation.
The presiding Magistrate, O.A Olajuwon admitted him to a bail of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She ordered that the case file be sent to the DPP for advice and adjourned the matter to December 14, 2017.
