Some residents of Dapchi, headquarters of Busari local government area of Yobe state, on Thursday attacked Governor Ibrahim Gaidam over the kidnap of students of the Government Girls Science Technical College. They hauled stones and other objects at his convoy while some sections resorted to booing him.
Gaidam had gone to the community to inform the people that the students kidnapped from Government Girls Science Technical College, Dapchi, have not been rescued. He had said on Wednesday in a statement that the Army had rescued some of the girls, saying they were with the military and the state would reveal their identities later.
TheCable reported that the governor arrived the community before noon and immediately went into a meeting with traditional leaders at the palace of the village head. He was said to have taken the leaders into confidence but they agreed that he should also address the crowd which had gathered outside. It was while he was addressing the crowd that the matter got chaotic and stones and objects were thrown at him. It took the intervention of soldiers, who fired shots into the air, for the crowd to disperse.
