A Delta State man, Billy Oghenebrume Egbe has described the transportation model put in place by the Lagos State Government as excellent in this modern time.
Egbe said he found the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in Lagos fascinated and a good initiative to ease transportation problem being faced by the residents in the cosmopolitan city.
Egbe took to his Facebook page to express his commendation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who though not the one who started the BRT project, but deemed it fit to continue the works of his predecessors unlike in some states in the country where projects are abandoned by the new government.
He wrote: “The Lagos State Government is a model for other State Governments to follow. The BRT system is unarguably one of the best decisions the State made in its efforts to improve intra-city transportation in Lagos State.
“It is cheap and convenient. Most taxi hailing apps will charge you between 3k to 5k from Ajah to Oshodi. But with the BRT system, you only pay #500 from Ajah to Oshodi.
“You are also saved from the stress of driving from one point to another in a State like Lagos where traffic congestion is a tourist attraction. The AC is chilling. There is provision for Mobile phone charging. The payment system is electronic.
“Thank you Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for the continuous improvement in the Transportation sector in Lagos State.
“I am commending Mr. Sanwo-Olu for his excellent spirit of continuity. I am from Delta State.
All the projects embarked upon by the previous administration have been discontinued by the current administration. So, when you see a Governor who is continuing the projects of his predecessors, just commend him.”
It would be recalled that the first phase of the Lagos BRT was opened on 17th of March,2008, although it was initially slated for opening in November 2007. The initiative to build the system was initiated by the government of the previous governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. It goes from Mile 12 through Ikorodu Road and Funsho Williams Avenue up to CMS.
At the moment, the Lagos BRT Corridor has been extended from Mile 12 to Ikorodu, which is the second phase of BRT implementation. Erstwhile Governor Akinwunmi Ambode approved the construction of a new BRT corridor along Oshodi to Abule-Egba, which the incumbent Governor Sanwo-Olu ensured his competition when he resumed office The corridor has since been commissioned and put to use.
