The dream of Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, the world’s no 1 ranked male Tennis player, to win a “Golden Slam” crashed on Friday as he lost 6-1, 3-6,1-6 to Alexander Zverev of Germany in the men’s Tennis singles semi-final at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday.
Djokovic was bidding to become the first man to win all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal in the same year.
The Serb started the game strongly, winning the first set by 6-1.
However, the 24-year-old Zerev mounted a strong comeback to win the next two 6–3, 6–1.
Djokovic, who has yet to win an Olympic gold medal, will face Carreno Busta in the bronze medal match on Saturday.
His previous best at the Olympics is bronze at Beijing 2008.
Zverev will, meanwhile, meet Russian Karen Khachanov, who defeated Busta 6-3,6-3 earlier on Friday, in Sunday’s final.
