Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has pleaded with members of the Rice Millers Association of Nigeria (RIMAN), rice merchants and distributors not to inflate the price of rice due to the recent border closure.
He said the closure of the border is meant to promote growth of the Nigerian economy and attain self sufficiency in the rice value chain.

He said this at a meeting with RIMAN and other stakeholders at the CBN Corporate Headquarters in Abuja.
Emefiele promised that the CBN would help rice millers and others to expand production thereby discouraging smuggling which has threatened the growth of the rice sector.
Peter Dama, Chairman of RIMAN, said the government should not reverse its decision on border closure, saying members are behind the policy and would do everything to ensure Nigeria attains self sufficiency in rice production.

Dama urged Emefiele to look into pending applications by RIMAN members for financial intervention.
Emefiele promptly ordered his staff to look into the complains with the aim of solving them.
