A commercial bus driver has fled after he crushed a pilot, Samson Marioghae, to death on Friday. The accident was said to have occurred along the Ughelli/Agbarho-Effurun section of the East-West Road in the Ughelli North Council Area of Delta State. The Punch reports that the deceased was knocked down while he was standing beside the car he had been traveling in. He was reportedly heading to a burial ceremony with his brother before the incident happened.

The driver was said to have fled knowing the victim would not survive the accident.

Olusola Olusegun, the Ughelli Area Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, said the police and security agencies are working to ensure the driver is arrested. He said the bus he left behind has been impounded while the deceased’s remains have been deposited in the Agbarho General Hospital mortuary.
