Philip Shaibu, Deputy Governor of Edo State, has accused Adams Oshiomhole, National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), of handing over a fake voters’ register list to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the state’s September governorship election.

Shaibu made the allegation in a statement issued by Ben Atu, his Special Assistant on Media, in reaction to INEC’s announcement of the direct primary mode for the Edo APC ahead of the ruling party’s governorship primary on 22 June.
The deputy governor claimed that the electoral umpire is making a mistake by listening to Oshiomhole and accepting the direct primary as the mode for the Edo APC governorship primary.

According to him, the APC National Chairman unilaterally decided to adopt the direct party mode without consulting the state APC chapter.
He insisted that the entire primary process lacked integrity as Oshiomhole – who he (Shaibu) described as an “interested party” – is an unjust arbiter superintending the activities.

The statement read: “The APC National Chairman is now acting like a judge presiding over his own case.
“Oshiomhole can’t be fair because he is an interested party in the Edo State Governorship election. INEC is making mistakes by allowing the National Chairman to decide without consulting with the State chapter.
“Oshiomhole can’t be talking about a direct primary when he doesn’t have the diary of register party members. Oshiomhole must have given fake voters register to INEC because those who have the authentic party registration diary at the State level were not consulted.

“Only a few members of the National Working committee that are loyal to Oshiomhole were present when the decisions of how Edo State Governorship election was taken.
“Oshiomhole has turned the table around where he alone now serves as both the State and National Chairman. He speaks for himself and also speaks for the State.”
