Police in Edo hav arrested five suspected kidnappers and recovered arms in Uhunmwode Local Government area of the state.
This is contained in a statement signed by SP Chidi Nwabuzor, the Police Public Relations Officer.
According to Nwabuzor, the suspects are Christopher Aiyegbeni, 29, Matthew Osayande, 32, Uyi Destiny, 27, Bankole Faz, 35, and Ayemen Okojie, 32 .
The items recovered from them were one double barrelled gun, one single barrelled gun and two pump-action guns with catridges.
He noted that the items were recovered on Friday by the operatives of Ekiadolor Divisional Police Headquarters, Benin.
“The arrest of the kidnappers was made possible following a complaint by a patriotic citizen of the state that at about 0600hrs of date, a group of five men, suspected to be kidnappers, heavily armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, invaded Ogoja Camp, also known as, Ford Oga Camp with the intention to kidnap one of the heads of the camp.
“He said the suspects shot sporadically into the air, but as luck ran against them, they were arrested by the Police with the help of community members and the vigilante group from Kamafua community in Uhunmwode local government area, Edo State,” he said.
Meanwhile, he said the Commissioner of Police in Edo, Mr Mohammed Dankwara, commended the bravery of the operatives, the community and the Vigilantes group in arresting the kidnappers.
He reiterated the command’s readiness to respond to distress calls to bring such situations to a halt.
Nwabuzor said the CP equally warned criminals to leave the state or face the stiffness of the law when caught. (NAN) www.nannews.ng
